New & Improved Scrap Space

Good Morning...as I sit in my parents' easy chair waiting for more sunshine to peak around the clouds so I can enjoy some pool time, I am remembering that I promised to post pictures of my scrapbooking room when I finally finished cleaning it!

It's been several weeks since I have actually completed that task, thankfully, but then got the notion to do the same re-organization in my three kids' rooms...needless to say, I was opening up a can of worms at the end of June!

Gutting Marissa's room while she was away in the last week of June for a school camping trip, was the start of my insanity :) In hindsight, I should have taken before and after photos, much like I did for my Scrap space...but all I've got instead are pics of the neat and tidy and well organized space of my kids...

This is the picture of the desk and bench that I painted from their original natural wood to black and finished with a verethane coat so Marissa could get some extra storage space in the bench for her homework, calligraphy and drawing supplies and make me happy by having a nice neat desktop.

I decided to move her bed under the window to open up her space a bit and to try to minimize her belongings :) in simple terms...she is a collector of ALL things and I am trying to guide her in another direction ;)

She has a wardrobe to increase her closet space as she only has a tiny closet...

keeping her room monochromatic has allowed us to introduce colours like these new aqua, plum and fushia pillows...I'd like to switch out her sheet set to white to keep it crisper looking

Matthew has been asking me for months for a desk...I decided to take Marissa's old white table and move it into his room and put his lockers on either side of it to create a bit of a cubby space...his room is tough because of the location of his window, closet and door, so their isn't much room for different layouts of his stuff...

I put his TV onto his dresser, but needed to paint out the forest green top to black and replaced his knobs also, freshened up some of our older furniture to a more current look and to reflect his 12 year old style...his room is divided into two...Baseball and Hockey...one side has his Luongo jersey, Goalie shots of him in action and trophies and medals etc...the other side of the room is Baseball, jersey, medals and banners...

Olivia's room was relatively organized, did that months prior, but the girls switched their beds one weekend while I was at a weekend retreat, and Olivia wanted to maximize the space in her room...mostly for entertaining her friends...I took Marissa's Club chair and put a white slipcover on it similar to what is on the chair already in Olivia's room, so now she has a pair of chairs...

We fashioned her daybed to be like a couch...she really wanted a sofa in her room, but that was pushing it as far as I was concerned ;) we see little of her and she already takes her tea and snacks into her space already, so I wanted to add a little coffee table for her so she isn't putting things on the floor. She likes to study and do homework in her room, with the TV on or music and was tending to sit on the floor, so I picked up a laptop table from Ikea for her Mac (in the far left corner beside the bed)

I reclaimed the cute little apartment size coffee table of my Grandmother's (which I've kept stored for years) and I decided to try and give it a fresh look by painting it... I started with a primer based paint in off white, two coats, a nice little sampler size of the turquoise, Canadian Tire, one coat and then hand sanded off along the edges and on the tabletop here and there...this exposed some of the white paint and in some areas, the wood base of the original table. The turquoise was a little bright so I hand rubbed a Gel Stain varathane by Minwax to help protect the surface as well as adding a darker shade to the paint. I had to get a new piece of glass cut for the top as the original recently cracked, so I chose a slightly thicker glass to prevent any future problems with the table surface...will be great for Olivia as she likes to have her daily pot of tea and snacks up in her room after school.

Check out these cool book shelf thingies...I got them at Barnes and Noble for her at Christmas time and was thinking that they'd be great for some of her hard covered favorites...they are metal 'L' shaped brackets that the bottom book slides on and subsequent books stack on top of...the finished look is that they appear to be floating on the wall...super neat!

Ok, so last but not least...the room that started it all...my Scrapspace!!!

I purchased another four cubed cubby shelf from Ikea to pair and balance the one I already had and put them under these two tabletop counters (above) and I moved all the rods off of my other wall and positioned them above my counterspace so that my punches and frequently used items were at hand for that workspace...I moved my stamp storage and stamps to the right hand side of the counter and cupboards so I wasn't moving all over the room to grab stuff, funny how you do things before you reorganize your life ;)

I love this new version of my ribbon storage...just tied them onto a rod from Ikea

The small shelf units on the left side are perfect for those little ink misters, small containers of glitter, stickles and jars of specialty ribbon and flowers.
I moved my smaller table to the other side of the room under the window and am using the ledge to hold my large jars of thread, Olivia's old night table stores my serger thread and misc. fabric and the natural wood box unit with drawers on the cupboard to the left holds my sewing scissors, thread rippers, measuring tapes etc.

I kept the two metal boards on the left side of the room because I find this still works for me...I reorganized what hung on them and picked up some more round/clear containers for odds and sods and I like being able to see what I have so bins full of adhesive etc. work better for me...I can grab what I want while in the middle of something, then quickly throw it back where it belongs. The cake plates on the left work great for throwing the odd embellies into to grab and use up as I create...if I tuck too many things away, they get forgotten ;) As you can see I still have a pile (on the chair) to sort and go through, organizing work is never done!

My computer desk and printing station area is a bit tidier than before ;)

Anyhow, as you can see my absence has mainly been due to me trying to get some semilance of order in my life. I find that once kids are in school, I get less done in the way or organizing due to the fact that all of their schedules get busier during that time, unfortunately for me, summer holidays is when we have more control over our time and schedules...thanks for stopping by and I'm going to go join the kids in the pool! Feel free to post any questions about some of the stuff I've used, as I'd be more than happy to help you organize your life more too! Take care.

Hello Summertime!!!

Well I am happy to say that I am no longer MIA...it has been a crazy couple of weeks here in the Ponte household!

Schools out for the Summer!!!! Yippee skippee...first day of summer holidays was spent inside the Mission's SilverCity theatres watching Eclipse of course! Very good show, ate loads of popcorn and pop and spent time with some gal pals and their kids...seperate rows though as we have teenagers that would prefer we not even share the same theatre...second day of summer holidays was Canada Day! It was fun and exhausting at the same time...Marissa got to dance with her fellow Freestyle'rs and had a blast! Mom got to sit in one of her favorite Volkswagen's a beautiful cherry red bug! Love those cars :) and take a whopping 378 pics of the same 2 minute routine for 45 minutes ;) everyone had loads of fun, the crowd loved them! Spent the evening with friends, perfect end to the day.

Can you see the looming grey clouds? Was warm enough,  just a little drizzly which was too bad, mind you the girls were quite happy that it wasn't super hot, as that would have been really hard on them to dance in.

I've been a busy little bee, organizing my workshop...pictures coming soon...organizing three kids' rooms and general mayhem ;) Picking kids up from camp and sending another off. Summer Baseball is in full swing and Matthew is on our Peewee AA team and loving it! Today we played game two in our Cloverdale tournament and my boy got the MVP for the game! Way to go Matthew ;)

Now it's time to start and finish some sewing projects!

TFSB!

Citrus Tree Studio

Well, I've done it again! I've found another awesome spot to grab some inspiration and kits (if the mood strikes you!) Check out Citrus Tree Studio's monthly kits, using some of the industries newest product every month...check out the gallery's for some added inspiration and you can even participate in some challenges on their Forum...I just recently stumbled across this site in my constant blog hopping and window shopping and decided to look further and discovered that they are putting a call out for more Design Team members for this coming Fall and Winter...they also have a sketch by the talented Julie Bonner for those of you
up for a challenge
I've posted the sketch too!

Here's my take on it...in typical Kristine fashion, you can see I've rotated the sketch to work my recent photo booth adventures with the girls on our shopping trip across the line to Bellingham this past weekend...it was on our way out of the mall after an exhausting 5 hours of circling the stores in Bellis Fair Mall, last time I had my picture taken in a little photo booth was about the same age as my girls! It took me a while to figure out how the machine took my money...but alas, we were successful in some goofy picture taking

notice all the tags from *some of the clothing that was purchased...

I also want to update you with pictures of my newly tidied and reorganized, (might have even purchased a few new storage items!) Scrapbooking Workshop...needless to say...I have been creating some cards today, as well as participating in the Citrus Tree Studio June Sketch contest...so my workshop is no longer tidy! That and the lighting right now...at 1:32am isn't the best...soooo I shall head to bed and start fresh tomorrow morning. Thanks for stopping by and get busy on this June Challenge if you feel like scrappin'!

What's your Kraft Space looking like these days?

Well I am inspired! Check out this link to Kelly Noel's blog post on the Studio Calico blog...she has successfully lite a fire under my backside and after the 8 hours of Dance today for my DD's Year End Show...and my shopping excursion across the line with two of my DD's tomorrow....I just might dive into my 'Kraft Space'...I will add some pick of my disasterous space 'After' it has been organized...but I'm not too ashamed to say it currently looks like 'Taz' has had a visit through it now!

This is a tragic photo of my latest HUGE Studio Calico order still sitting in the box! I did sneak a peek of all my loot, but haven't yet pulled it all out to play with ;( SO very sad...

I took all my ribbons out of the chaos of this Ribbon-Ez system, cause it wasn't ribbon-easy'esc for me...totally cute but does not work for my scrapin' style...need to re-think my ribbon storage big time...any suggestions, feel free to post them, I can use any help that's out there...

Nice little piles here and there of Class kits, sewing project for my BFF that I've had for one year! ARGH it is on the list...as I've just purchased some new fabric for my front porch furniture, the year old project must be completed first!
Gotta love my desk space...or lack thereof...essentials for computer work though; Starbucks, Canada Dry ginger-ale, catalogs, and the list goes on...
My couch/daybed retreat area is no where near a place to put my feet up and browse through magazines and idea books...it is serving as a fantastic 'catch-all' though ;)

Hopefully my 'Kraft Space' is making yours look incredible, or inspiring you to get busy like I need to, and get ORGANIZED!

Now check out my temporary Scrap-space that I took over as I have too much work to do and no organized area to do it in! I am grateful for my DH who is so patient with me...his head shaking has not gone un-noticed however, I do realize that with a very generous space of my own for creating, I shouldn't be taking over the Dining Room too...but a girl's gotta do what a girls gotta do!

My newest favorite tool right now is the Ranger craft mat, Tim Holtz inking/blending tools and this super neato retro spinner to hold all my inking tools! LOVE IT...well those and the enormous punch collection I'm aquiring...some people call it Hoarding...I call it Collecting...kinda like those people that collect Hummels ;)
trying to finish up my CTMH Club layouts from this month and nexts...you would think that 8 feet of table length is enough...but the 16 feet I have here is working great too! Did I mention the patience of my DH...

Let me know if you have been hit with the Spring Fever cleaning bug yourself, and feel free to post a comment of your accomplishments to date...nothing like reading up on other's successes to motivate you in your own! I'm off to record the memories of today's events...soon to be 'Scrapped' memories once I can find some space in the romm...thanks for stopping by ;)

a bowl of Cherry-O...

I decided to try this WOTG just as it appears in the guide...well almost, just a couple changes...it's starring my niece, Jada, on her 3rd Birthday so I decided to use the May Stamp of the Month: Cherish the Moment in addition to the exclusive My Acrylix set that comes with this G1008 Cherry-O Workshop kit

I also added these adorable Z1319 Opaques Cherry-O Pearl Stickers because they go great with this paper, and because I just really liked them!

Just starting on additional layouts with this collection, but thought I'd give you all a look at the main layout so you can start thinking about which photos you're going to use. The left page features a 5X7 and one 4X6 cropped to 4X5...the right has two more 4X6 photos cropped to 4X5 as well. You'll be using one of my newest punches to add that fantastic border on top.

Splendor Bonus Layout

Here's a look at the bonus layout I did with this month's Splendor WOTG
Club. I made a dimensional flower with CTMH's new   1 -1/4 punch, instructions to make this flower can be found on page 13 of the Summer 2010 Idea Book, or in the online catalog which can be found on my CTMH website .

I used the 'Over the Rainbow' My Acrylix stamp set (D1426) to fashion the rainbow, added a little embroidery floss between the colours, stitched the dragon fly's trail and a couple extra stitches here and there...dug into my stash of Dimensional Elements Borders (Z1156) and thoroughly enjoyed adding some more of those fabulous Splendor Designer Brads (Z1317)...thanks for looking ;)

Hello ! I am running around like mad...trying to do a little of this and a little of that in between this and that...phew! Dance Competitions are almost over! Yippee, tomorrow is my last day with Marissa, she has four tomorrow, but it's the last day...Matthew's baseball tournament this past weekend couldn't have had better weather either. All in all, life is good. Hopefully all of you had a fantastic Mother's Day...I spent mine doing what I do best...being a Mother!
Thought I'd add some pictures of the next Workshop with the Splendor paper collections. I love all the accessories, like the new Splendor Brads, they are fabulous!

Enjoy the Splendor!!

I am knee deep in the new Splendor paper collection from CTMH and I am loving it! If only I could ignore this cold I am getting...it's throwing my head into a bit of a tails spin...I thought in the meantime I'd show you some of this paper in action...until I post some of this month's layouts of my own...
here's a little sample...
